Softimage Unveils SOFTIMAGE|XSI 6.5 and SOFTIMAGE|FACE ROBOT 1.8 Software at SIGGRAPH 2007
SIGGRAPH 2007, San Diego (Booth #503) – August 6, 2007 – Softimage Co., a subsidiary of Avid Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ:AVID), today announced the latest versions of its 3D animation software packages: SOFTIMAGE®|XSI® 6.5 and SOFTIMAGE|FACE ROBOT® 1.8. Softimage also announced plans to repackage its Essentials and Advanced versions of SOFTIMAGE|XSI 6.5 software to meet the specific needs of artists and studios, respectively.

Ainda nao se sabe ao certo o que é... mas podemos deduzir que talvez algumas das funções do Advanced venham parar à versao Essentials...tipo como o Hair...mas isto é só especulação.
Pode ser que já venha o novo sistema de Particulas "Moondust"...who knows, por certo saberemos mais nestes dias |

Retirado da XSiBase:
- Foundation stays at 6.02, there is no Foundation 6.5.
Note that 6.5 and 6.02 binary scene files are compatible.

- Hmm, well. Steve, will there be a Foundation 7? Or is this the end of the line for Foundation?
And what about bug fix patches? If there becomes a 6.51 will there be a 6.03 for Foundation?
Hmm.
- No, it is not the end of the line for Foundation.
Foundation just sits out this minor .X release, but will be back in the game for a major release.
My understanding is that service packs (.xx releases), should they be required, would also be available for Foundation.
Portanto não irá haver Foudations 6.5. |

Mais novidade Softimage postadas por um User (reparem no que ele fala das Particulas aka Moondust ) :
Just returned from the user group meeting.
Presenters:
Syd Mead - Awesome! He was down to earth, funny and as inspiring as his body of work. A real pleasure.
Chris Watts (VFXSupe 300), Daniel Leduc and Joseph Kasparian (Hybride) rocked the house showing shots and approaches from 300. Great Presentation.
New structure:
- FND will remain at 6.02 until the next major release. Why? Sorry, they didn't say.
- ESS/ADV change is a decision based upon the feedback that they have received from studio and independent artists. Bottom line - Independent professional artists want the more advanced tools,but can't afford them at the old ADV price... but generally don't need a renderfarm (or don't have one). Studios feel the pinch on their farms, and this reduces that pinch very, very well.
New Features:
- Well, they didn't show them - listed as in the press-release and well, that's pretty much that.
- Mentioned that 6 major render systems have come to Soft ready to develop - showed one... 3Delight, in the render region, using the same render tree... whoa!!! Was a demo, watermarked version - only using two of the cores (of eight)... displacement was still ridiculously fast.
Future:
Moondust Preview... ... ... OMFGBBQ!! Okay, enough of the immature BS... wait... OMFGBBQ!!... really. Nodal based everything, visual programming, logical flow (think rendertree), compoundable nodes, robust commenting... oh yeah - that's the secndary stuff. Amazing viewport previews, and realtime control. Blows the doors off of everything I've seen in the particle realm, OOTB. Tied directly into the core, using all processor power available, integrated directly into all simulation aspects... modify meshes with particles in realtime. As previews go... I have nothing to say except (and excusemy crudeness) - mental erection.
Luxury Liner:
Face Robot's new features were very sound, very useful (the game stuff is just as useful for broadcast and film) and have me wondering how we can start utilizing the technology. FR is now a grown-up. |
